100NO 445: Does organ removal impact longevity?
Monday Oct 04, 2021
Monday Oct 04, 2021
If you’ve had organs or other body parts removed, will you live a shorter life?
This question, posed by wonderful 100 Not Out listener and community member, Bron, is the topic of today’s episode. Her full question (provided here with Bron’s permission) is –
“As Damo would know I am a patient of his. I am 44 next week and have to date had several organs removed. Stomach – due to cancer, gall bladder, appendix, full hysterectomy.
What effect does organ removal have on longevity? As I’ve always thought everything works together and has a function and place. Particularly the stomach and gall bladder. I am surprised how well and healthy I live without them. But it does concern me that it has shortened my life. A big thanks to Damo for his awesome guidance.”
Thanks so much for your question Bron. If you have a question you would like to be discussed then send it through to marcus@marcuspearce.com.au or DM us on Facebook or Instagram.

100NO 444: Are we becoming too judgemental?
Monday Sep 27, 2021
Monday Sep 27, 2021
Does judgement get us down? Does it make us feel flat, frustrated, anxious and argumentative? Damo had a conversation recently with a friend who said he had become quite judgemental and realised what impact it was having on his emotions.
Practicing non-judgement may seem impossible and almost useless. But what of judging less? And what of being more curious?
We discuss all of this and more on episode 444 of 100 Not Out.

100NO 443: Secrets of Australia’s oldest man with Janet Rowlings
Monday Sep 20, 2021
Monday Sep 20, 2021
You have to go all the way back to episode 17 of 100 Not Out when we interviewed our very first centenarian on the podcast. Back then it was July 2013 and Dexter Kruger was 103
Little did we know that our first centenarian guest would go on to become the oldest man in the history of our country ever to live.
Dexter lived to 111 years and 188 days, not only becoming the oldest man in Australia but the oldest living human being until his death on July 20 2021.
Dexter was also the world’s oldest active author and you know what they say – behind every 111-year-old author is an incredible transcriber, and that transcriber slash ghostwriter and dear friend of Dexter’s is Janet Rowlings, who joins us again on 100 Not Out to celebrate his life and times.
Janet helped co-write Dexter’s autobiography which was printed just before his death and arrived just 28 hours after he died.
You can purchase a copy of the book by sending a message to Dexter’s official Facebook page, where Janet and the team will look after you.
Janet was featured in the 110+ club which aired on the ABC. You can watch it here.

100NO 442: The Art, Science & Hormones of Longevity
Monday Sep 13, 2021
Monday Sep 13, 2021
What does the science say about what hormones contribute to longevity?
More specifically, this topic comes from 100 Not Out listener Pritesh –
Morning fellas… got another question for ya… The inner Geek is asking. “Please explain the biochemical science involved in Longevity? What hormones/chemicals in our human body promote Longevity and how do we support the natural production of these chemicals on a long-term basis?”
Thanks for your question Pritesh 🙂 If you have a question you can email us at marcus@marcuspearce.com.au or on Facebook @onehundrednotout

100NO 441: Binge watching – best and worst lockdown movies, books and more
Monday Sep 06, 2021
Monday Sep 06, 2021
Amongst Netflix, Stan, Apple TV, Binge, Kayo, Disney + and more, we have more choice than ever in what we choose to watch on TV.
With so many Australians having experienced lockdown lately, we lighten the load on 100 Not Out and talk about what we’ve been watching, reading and learning lately.
What is it about some movies or series that make us laugh and cry? Why do some of us love dark murder mysteries and others just want a romantic comedy.
What do we do about multiple subscriptions to an endless choice of streaming platforms (Damo has the answer).
All of this and more on the latest episode of 100 Not Out.

100NO 440: Turning MND into LeMoNaDe with Bianca Adkins
Monday Aug 30, 2021
Monday Aug 30, 2021
In 2020, on February 29, the lives of Matty and Bianca Adkins and their two children Frankie and Banjo would change forever. At age 39, Matty Adkins was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Life’s plans and big dreams were instantly altered … but not in the way you might think. Whilst much of society paints a story of misery for those with MND, Bianca Adkins and her family are unapologetically happier than they’ve ever been.
How – you might ask? And Why? Well, in the words of the Adkins family – when life gives you lemons, you better start making lemonade. And it’s a message this incredible team – now known as the Lemonade Crew – are sharing with us all.
To support the Lemonade Crew, buy some awesome merch over at https://lemonadecrew.com/ and support them on Instagram and Facebook.

Is diversity dead? With so much commentary on right and wrong at the moment, what about the messy middle? And this doesn’t just relate to social commentary. What about biodiversity and the role it plays in human health?
This conversation has been stimulated by our listener, Pritesh. Thanks for your question Pritesh!

100NO 438: What impact will 2021 have on us in 2025?
Monday Aug 16, 2021
Monday Aug 16, 2021
Today’s conversation stems from a question from a loyal listener of the podcast, Pete. “Righto boys – I have a question. And not surprising it has to do with teenagers. I’m really concerned about the long-term impact covid, news saturation and lockdowns will have on the mental health of teenagers. We know from research (don’t ask me to site that research ) that we see the impacts of trauma 3-4 years down the track. So what are we going to see? Well Pete, this episode is for you.

100NO 437: Birthdays with a 0 – what’s in a number?
Monday Aug 09, 2021
Monday Aug 09, 2021
Birthdays with a zero get both a good and bad wrap – it really depends who you ask. When 100 Not first began, Damo was 39 and unsure how he felt about turning 40. 437 episodes later, it’s Marcus’s turn to hit the big 4-0.
For some, birthdays with a 0 are times for serious reflection and projection. For others, they are just another day. On this episode we discuss everything to do with a big 0 birthday.

The country this week is equally mourning the loss of and celebrating the list of Australia’s oldest man, Dexter Kruger. We were fortunate to interview Dexter twice on 100 Not Out. The first time was in 2013 on episode 17 and the second came on episode 252 alongside his friend and writing aid, Janet Rowlings.
Dexter broke a number of guidelines or “rules” on his way to 111 years young. He is renowned for his rule-breaking diet, but what is spoken of less is how well he navigated a strong social life. On episode 17 he shared his social rituals, which as simple as they seem, we can all take a lot from. In the midst of what is currently a socially tense time in our communities, we not only pay homage to Dexter Kruger’s long and celebrated life, but the legacy he leaves not only in his books, but in his ability to connect with humanity.

Heather Lee is a fan favourite on 100 Not Out. In her mid 90s, the NSW Senior Australian of the Year and OAM is the fastest walker on the planet in her age group. Multiple world records from distances as short as 1500m all the way up to 10,000 metres. And the speed? Think 8 minute ks!!
Heather Lee just does not stop walking and she definitely won’t let a lockdown stop her from staying active.
This incredible woman will inspire you beyond belief. You can listen to our previous chats with Heather on Episode 30 and 371.

100NO 434: Identity Crisis? Here’s What To Do
Monday Jul 19, 2021
Monday Jul 19, 2021
There are times in life where our identity can change overnight. Having a baby, starting a business, changings jobs, getting divorced, or retiring can all bring with them major “who am I?” moments.
On this episode we answer the question sent to us by 100 Not Out listener Pritesh. His question is around the perceived identity crisis his parents are facing, who have recently retired. We share our own personal experiences in adopting new identities and letting go of old ones, and the role that finding purpose and meaning in each chapter of life has in this.
